matt lindstrom.jpgAdd another potential closer to the list. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Marlins right-hander Matt Lindstrom is “virtually certain” to be traded during the winter meetings.

According to major league sources,
of the six teams to express interest in Lindstrom, three have jumped to
the forefront in recent days. Said another
source, Lindstrom is “close to being traded,” adding that a deal “could
happen any day now.”
Lindstrom, who turns 30 in February, is
arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.

Team president Larry Beinfest said the closer role was Leo Nunez’s to lose this week,
so it appears they’d prefer not to keep both. Limited to 54 appearances
due to right elbow inflammation in 2009, Lindstrom posted a 5.89 ERA
and 1.65 WHIP.

Dan Connolly of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports that Orioles third baseman Tim Beckham underwent core muscle surgery in Philadelphia on Thursday and is expected to miss the next six to seven weeks.

Beckham, 28, was originally diagnosed with a strained left groin. He sustained the injury during spring training and reaggravated it on Monday against the Indians.

Beckham was off to a slow start, batting .179/.247/.262 in 93 plate appearances. Danny Valencia and Jace Peterson should handle the hot corner while Beckham is out.
